WAYFINDING STRATEGY AND SIGN SYSTEM DESIGN

INTERIOR WAYFINDING, ADA, & IDENTIFICATION SIGNAGE

Cohesive sign systems help people navigate through a space by creating a visual path through an environment. In a courthouse setting where people are trying to find specific destinations, it is particularly important to have clear and concise signage to effectively communicate with the variety of stakeholders entering the building. Strategically placed signage can improve the experience of all visitors. For this project at Touch Design Studio, I led the design of the signage system from wayfinding strategy and initial concepting to producing mechanical drawings and programming the sign system in SignAgent.

Before designing a wayfinding system, it is important to analyze the space and identify wayfinding and other signage opportunities. Taking the time to evaluate and plan out the space helps both the designers and the client understand the conditions of the environment and the needs for signage.

Below are three different sign systems that I designed that we presented to the client. They ended up choosing the first one, which will go into production as the building is completed.

INTERACTIVE WAYFINDING KIOSK

Digital kiosk designed to help commuters and shoppers navigate to their destination and encourage them to explore their surrounding area with interactive information. Kiosk can either be one-sided and placed against existing pillars or double-sided and freestanding. Design elements complement the Station Shops at Suburban branding.

EXTERIOR WAYFINDING DESIGN

A collection of 3D renderings designed in SketchUp for a diverse array of clients in the healthcare, education, commercial, and civic sectors designed at Exit Design.

Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge

Exit Design was tasked to develop Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge wayfinding signage system. I was responsible for 3D modeling the signage elements and their surroundings as well as contributing to the design of the signage. I also designed the window installations for the New NY Bridge Outreach Centers on each side of the bridge.

DREXEL LANDMARK SIGNAGE

Exit Design was tasked with designing a landmark sign for Drexel on one of their main intersections. I created 3D mockups to help determine the sizing, materials, and lighting of the signage. I also visited the site with a prototype to evaluate sizing and placement.

Lifebridge Exterior Wayfinding Signage

Exit Design was tasked with designing an exterior wayfinding sign system for a LifeBridge Health facility. I created 3D models and renderings of this signage and their surrounding environment to help the client envision the final result.
